I ran into this:

(schema 'varschema2' does not exist):

drop variable varschema2.testv cascade;
ERROR: schema "varschema2" does not exist
create variable if not exists testv as text;
server closed the connection unexpectedly
	This probably means the server terminated abnormally
	before or while processing the request.
connection to server was lost

(both statements are needed to force the crash)
