Please try to provide a concise reproducible example, if at all possible: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- simply launch postmaster, it dies immediately with the above error If you know how this problem might be fixed, list the solution below: --------------------------------------------------------------------- I don't know a solution but I can say that I use successfully postgresql since the 6.3, and I wanted to upgrade my 6.4.2 which worked very fine to the 6.5.2 and I'd better have stayed in bed this morning... I havent yet tried to reduce the default shared memory usage with the -B option. do you think this could significantly reduce the speed of the database engine ? thanks.
