1. Command for getting columns

   I want to get the names of the columns in a table ... I know I can get
   it through "\d" in the interactive monitor, but when accessing the
   databases non-interactively, how can I get the names of the columns?

   Look at the man libpq for nfield function, or in perldoc Pg for the same
