So with your arithmetics 2.2.5 != 2.2.5. Hey that's great. How about
naming the next Linux kernel release 2.0 just to confuse some people?

Seriously though, while this is offtopic on this list, I wonder what's
going on. If I have a system with glibc 2.2.5, I cannot expect this to
be the same version as on another system with glibc 2.2.5. Is this the
correct understanding?

And which changelog should I read? The RedHat one, the Debian one or the
glibc one? 

Or does the -34 mean more than just the RedHat version number? The
Debian version is correctly named 2.2.5-6 where the -6 means that this
is the 6th release of glibc 2.2.5 for Debian,
