It's not just "on some systems" the test seems to miss the screen for
"is this gcc" and it tries a gcc-specific flag (--traditional) on all
C compilers - at least that's how I understand the problem.

under Irix, if I use gcc, then it runs fine; if I use the Irix C
compiler, the script crashes.

No, I haven't contacted the autoconf guys yet... I have never used
autoconf and really have not looked into how it works, but I guess
this bug should be reported to them
