update foo set abstime_field = abstime_field + '1 year'::reltime;

;^)

I normaly use 'abstime' and 'reltime' for dates and intervals, the major 
difference is 'timestamp' has microsecond time accuracy, but abstime 
takes less storage space IIRC.
